Road Trip to Marfa: Day 4, Unexpected.

After being out in the cold and windy weather for several hours on day 3 of our trip, I went to bed not feeling very well and woke up the next morning not that much better. Hoyoung also needed to take it slow and rest up for his jobs this weekend back home so on day 4, the Sprinkles took the car to check out Big Bend National Park and we stayed in Marfa.

We took some more time to walk around the streets. Because day 3 had been so windy and cold, we thought yesterday would be even colder with the cloud cover. To our surprise, it was actually much better than the day before because there was very little wind and not as cold even without the sun. Unexpectedly, we were able to enjoy walking around and soak in the eclectic mix of architecture.

We checked out local shops, like Marfa Book Company.

The shop also had a small room with a podium and chairs set up for lectures and an unexpected and nice gallery space in the back corner.

After walking around, we were a little hungry so we stopped by Squeeze Marfa for a bite. We enjoyed the unexpected nice (and not windy) weather on their patio.

After lunch, we made our way towards Frama to get a cup of coffee. On the way, we saw this rooster, just chilling in the front yard. Unexpected, indeed!

Frama at Tumbleweed Laundry is so unique and charming, completely unexpected. You can do your laundry and grab coffee or ice cream or get on the internet or all of the above!

I also really wanted to visit the Marfa Public Library. It is a small place but you can tell it is such a big part of the community.

On our way back to El Cosmico, we snapped some photos of each other, too!

We absolutely loved our stay in Marfa and at El Cosmico. We can't wait to come back!

Road Trip to Marfa: Day 2 | We made it!

To get into Marfa, we took Texas 17 and the views were to die for!

The highway was mostly empty the entire way so we took full advantage of the photo op.

After about an hour and a half of taking in all of the beautiful scenery of mountain ranges against the soft grey blue sky and the greenery of the tree tops on 17, we finally arrived in Marfa and checked in to El Cosmico.

Hoyoung and I were lucky enough to reserve a teepee for our stay. (We are told that the teepees are already booked every weekend until the end of October!)

The inside of the teepee exceeded our expectations. And we were pleasantly surprised to find the newly added fire pit inside.

We ate dinner on the camp grounds at the communal kitchen.

At night, El Cosmico is a peaceful site. Even though all of their units are booked out for the entire week, the camp grounds were so quiet and relaxed. The silence was so refreshing, away from the noise of Dallas. The stars were spread all across the dark sky and you could see the faint glow of the fire pits burning in the teepees.

Unfortunately, Hoyoung forgot his tripod for the trip so we tried to set up the camera on a Gorillapod on the picnic table outside of our teepee. It was so dark outside that he tried to do his best with our flashlight. Instead of helping him, I snapped this photo with my iPhone instead.

Finally, he decided it’d be best to just set the camera on top of the table and Hoyoung was able to get this shot using his Fujifilm x100s. He's not satisfied with this one but I think it's beautiful!

Our Marfalous Adventure: Day 1 | Abilene, Tx

About two months ago, we met the lovely Jon and Jenn Sprinkle. Jenn had started following me on Instagram, had reached out to us to meet for lunch, and we have been meeting up weekly since. About two weeks after our initial meeting, we cautiously asked the Sprinkles if they would want to go on a trip with us to Marfa, Tx. And much to our relief, they said, “yes!” (instead of thinking we were crazy!)

We are so excited to be spending the next 4 days with them! And who wouldn’t be? Look how cute they are!

To make this trip more easy-going, we decided to break up the drive by stopping in Abilene to eat dinner and rest up for the night. (Abilene is only 3.5 hours away versus Marfa, being 8 hours away.)

Jenn, looking gorgeous! at the restaurant.

The sun was starting to set just as we stepped out of the restaurant. The soft light was so nice.

Oh, and one more of my favorites of Jon and Jenn!

We will be with the Sprinkles for the next 3 nights at hotel El Cosmico in Marfa.  Follow us on Instagram to see posts from our trip!
